Food Storage

We have been talking about food storage for years now and now we've finally started. Thanks to case lot sales, the cannery, and a little motivation (aka the earthquakes and volcanoes) we now have a good start. We spent most of Friday morning sealing up pouches of food then headed to the case lot sales and Lowes (for the shelving) and this is our finished product:

A Green Green Thumb

I have gotten Spring Fever pretty bad this year. It's the first year we are in a house and I'll have actual garden space to work with and I just can't stop thinking about all the possibilities! We've gone to the store and looked into getting seed starting kits to start our vegetable garden (as we won't be able to actually plant anything for a while with everything torn up) and that can get pricey. So I went to plan B. The Environmentally friendly (and budget friendly) plan! This year we stared all of our vegetables and herbs inside in old cartons. I read up online how to do it and just went for it! We have used everything from old egg cartons to old baby food cartons to build up our little garden. The only things we had to buy were the seeds (naturally) and some seed starting soil. Once we planted the seeds, we made a greenhouse-like environment for them until they sprouted and then set them out by the windows. They should be all ready to plant soon--now we just need a finished yard to plant them in!Jane's Sunflower "Sunny" and our FHE bean plant

Our Herb garden starting to sprout. You can see the middle one still has it's "greenhouse" on.

Peppers. . .lots of peppers

9 Months Old

Grant is now 9 months old! I can't believe how fast the time has gone! He is a big guy with lots of personality! Here are some Grant-isms:
*He just learned how to crawl. He's been scooting around for some time but now he can get on all fours and GO!
*He likes to pull himself up on things. The other day he pulled himself up on the stairs, leaned back, and stood unassisted for about 1 1/2 seconds! I was a proud Mom.
*He eats everything! His favorite bites are shoes, socks, and paper. yuck!
*He loves to open and close doors. He and Jane will play that game and they both get laughing so hard!
*When I go in to get him in the morning, he is usually sitting up and grinning ear to ear.
*Grant LOVES music. It calms him, it excites him, it makes him stop whatever he is doing (including crying) and listen. Even when I sing to him (scary) he will look at me, calm as can be, with a smile on his face!
*His favorite time of the day is bath time. He loves to kick and splash and chew on bath toys. If we lay him on his back, he won't stop kicking until we sit him back up.
*His favorite toys are my watering can, stuffed animals, and anything Jane is playing with. He loves to wrestle with stuffed animals that are about his size--rolling around, biting, and growling at them.

We are so honored to have little "Bubba" Grant in our family!
